Since I am a Titan fan, we might as well start talking about something that I can enjoy after hockey is over. ;D
I sold my irons at the end of the season, and currently ironless.....any suggestions for a new set, and why? 0-5 handicap range, but getting older, so might need some game improvement help soon. ;D

I might be in the market for new irons...put a 2 in front of your handicap and that is me so I won't be able to give you any recommendations. I did however just pick up a new Nike SQ driver and an Oddysey 2 ball SRT putter that I am looking forward to using. I want to get a membership (Sussex) for the first time but not sure if I can swing $400 for that and another $400ish for new irons...amongst other things.
I may have to take a trip up to Moncton soon and spend a couple hours wacking some irons and see what I like. Mine are cheapies, I have a set of Dunlop and a set of Aliens. Hit my buddie's Taylormades last year and what a difference. The few swings I took it was about a 2 club difference. I hit a 153 yd par 3 with a 9i whereas I am lucky to get pin high with my 7i.
I am looking forward to getting out a lot more this year now that I won't be travelling as much with work. I tracked a lot of stats last year to give me something to compare to as a benchmark for this year. A lot of improvement is needed LOL.

I tracked a lot of stats last year to give me something to compare to as a benchmark for this year. A lot of improvement is needed LOL. I have tried most of the big company clubs.....every demo I've ever saw, I gave them a try....I've owned Callaway, Ping, Taylormade, KZG and Titleist, along with a couple other cheaper ones starting out. I've been in the top 3 of our club championship a good bit in the last 5 or 6 years, but feel I played my best with the Callaway X20 tour irons(won a couple tournaments that year, and lost the club in a playoff)......They were an iron somewhere in the middle of a regular iron, and what today's AP2 irons would be........I've played AP2's for the last 3 seasons, and was thinking of just upgrading to the new ones, but then got thinking about what I had the most success with.......if I could find something in between the regular and tour again, I would give them a serious look this year, but something like that is getting hard to find.......they either make them now with too much offset (regulars), and the tour"ish" ones are getting smaller, with less and less offset, etc. I want a little bit more forgiveness than I have now, but still be able to work the ball from side to side... I've actually thought of going to Callaway preowned and just getting a good shape set of the X20 tours I used to love. My problem this year, is that I've never been without irons going into the season.........the demos don't hit our course until May/early June, so I could go the first month without a set of my own.......I might just have to go to Golf Town and smack a bunch of them which I don't really like, as I prefer the real setting, outdoor range demo.........anyway, I'll figure it out....might have to put a rain check on our usual March game down in Nova Scotia this year.

Do you have plans on playing Sussex again this season? always play Sussex a few times each year. It's usually one of the first open, so we go down a couple times before ours opens, and they a buddy and I always play the invitational tournament they have. usually end up about 6 rounds a year there with the tournament. We should try to get one in this year.

I'm kinda in the same situation here, but if I want to golf I have to drive.....although not as far as you, I am about 25 minutes from Gowan Brae, and about 30 minutes from Pokemouche.......with the 4 lane it's not a bad drive to Sussex, and you really don't have to play that much to make a membership pay for itself, especially if it's a good deal.

It works out to about 10 rounds as a break even point. I don't find the drive too bad from home, but I will be trying to plan some rounds after work which adds a bit more time and distance. Trying to convince a couple of buddies to jump on it, will help absorb some travel costs and gives me a regular playing partner.
Every other course that is closer in proximity to my house would be hundreds of dollars more. That was the one thing I enjoyed working in Moncton the last couple of years, always had a handful of options from the office or hotel.

that's amazing really.......I may even go for a membership there, if 10 rounds will pay for it. with range, locker, club storage, and playing, I pay close to $1400.

Hit the range for the first time yesterday, a little sore today. I got a brand new set in the music room downstairs....just waiting to be hit. I ordered them from Gowan Brae ProShop....they match or beat the big guys on anything.........I went to the big store in Moncton, tried a few out, found out what I wanted then came home and ordered them here....a good idea for anyone to do.....lol. price was better for me here. I got the new Callaway X Hot Pro irons. I hit a few 6 irons out of my backyard the other day and they are sweet...can't wait to take them to the range and course.
